Leading UK Legal Firm Achieves In-Depth Monitoring and Diagnostics for VDI Estate with Liquidware Stratusphere UX

Wed, 2018-10-03 10:36

Increased Visibility into Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Yields Significant Business and Productivity Improvements

LONDON, UK. - IP EXPO October 3, 2018 - Liquidware, the leading third-party provider of platform-agnostic end-user computing solutions, today announced the UK leader of legal expenses insurance, DAS, has become a customer with their recent procurement of Stratusphere UX, Liquidware’s user experience monitoring and diagnostics solution.

Darren Perry, EUC Manager, DAS UK Group, commented "Since implementing VDI in 2014 we have lacked the ability to drill into the Operating System to pinpoint issues, measure trends and create meaningful reports on our endpoints." The main catalyst for seeking a solution was a period of performance issues for a regional office’s staff that was suffering with slow logons and inadequate performance in general. "As project lead for our VDI implementation, I have much experience in our environment and was aware of where things have gone well and not so well. While I was pretty sure what was the root cause, I didn’t have the ability to measure process hits, affected applications, logon times etc. Stratusphere UX achieves all this and more for DAS."

After discussing the requirements and running a pilot with ComputerWorld, a Liquidware Acceler8 Partner, DAS has purchased Stratusphere UX licenses for their head office and one of their regional office VDI data centres. VDI users are the initial use case, but DAS will be extending Stratusphere UX across their VMware Mirage fleet of physical desktops and laptops in due course.

DAS has a number of new EUC initiatives where they see Stratusphere UX providing benefits to their business, namely:

  • Support for planning an expansion of their VDI estate
  • The on-boarding of VDI from home
  • Working with their more complex (High Performance) desktops
  • Windows 10 testing and on-boarding
  • Scaling the environment
  • A real time dashboard for BAU (business as usual) incidents and alerts so they are ahead of the game should an issue arise – fix it before it’s a problem!
  • Monthly KPI reports
  • Troubleshooting for users who have reported issues from a previous date, pulling historical info will prove useful when working on longer standing issues
  • Measuring Network and SAN performance during an issue

Liquidware is exhibiting at this year’s IP Expo and can be found in the Citrix Pavilion at Stand K24 where they will be demonstrating not only Stratusphere UX but also their market-leading workspace management solution, ProfileUnity and application layering solution, FlexApp.

Liquidware Shows First Multi-Cloud User Profile and Application Layering Solution at Microsoft Ignite

Mon, 2018-09-24 09:07

ProfileUnity and FlexApp enable seamless consumption of Amazon S3, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure storage.  Stratusphere UX provides comprehensive visibility into Windows desktops running on Microsoft Azure.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Sept. 24, 2018 – Liquidware, the leading third-party provider of platform-agnostic end-user computing solutions, today announced that it will showcase its solutions for Microsoft Azure at booth #643 at the sold out Microsoft Ignite conference, at Orange County Convention Center, Fla., from Sept. 24-28.

The latest innovations being demonstrated include seamless Azure integration in Liquidware’s leading User Environment Management solution, ProfileUnity, with user profiles stored and retrieved from the cloud. Liquidware is the only company delivering a solution to manage user profiles from Microsoft Windows to object-based cloud storage, or multiple clouds, without the use of a Server Message Block (SMB) file share. By leveraging object-based storage for user profiles, organizations benefit by readying their users for seamless DaaS (Desktop-as-a-Service) transitions, providing built-in high availability from multiple clouds and lowering the cost of storage.

A preview of the forthcoming new version of FlexApp, Liquidware’s application layering solution, will demonstrate how application layers can be stored and retrieved from multiple clouds, including Microsoft Azure. Benefits include high-availability of apps with dual on-prem and cloud storage practices, and the elimination of SMB file share requirements.

“More and more customers are looking at how to best utilize public cloud to deliver their user workspaces,” said Jason E. Smith, VP of Products, Liquidware. “Liquidware is committed to providing the best solutions to help them deliver the best experience to their users, wherever their workspace resides; physical, virtual or cloud.”

Further and with the imminent release of version 6.1, Liquidware announces that its industry-leading user experience monitoring and diagnostics solution, Stratusphere UX, is now available in the Azure Marketplace (https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/liquidware.stratusphere?tab=Overview). This new version will also introduce process optimization, which intelligently optimizes CPU resources and lessens the negative performance effects of CPU-intensive applications. Additionally, Stratusphere UX will add in-guest visibility for Windows event logs, as well as the ability to monitor applications and processes that communicate outside of the guest—including protocol, destination address and application latency.

Liquidware Attends its Tenth VMworld Event

Thu, 2018-08-23 16:15

Liquidware Celebrates 10 Years of Desktop Virtualization Innovation as an Ongoing Sponsor of VMworld 2018.

Chicago, IL - August 23rd, 2018 - Liquidware, the leading third-party provider of platform-agnostic end-user computing solutions, will be showcasing its products at VMworld in Las Vegas from August 26 - 30, 2018. This will be the tenth time in its decade-long existence that Liquidware has participated as a sponsor in what it describes as "a strategic show" for its brand. Consequently, it is sending its heavy hitters to field questions from VMworld’s technically-biased delegates at booth 2126.

"Our booth is always one of the busier ones, which strikes even me as surprising given how server- and data center-centric VMware, and thus VMworld, is. But that’s probably what makes us stand out to delegates with EUC on their agenda and who are staring down the barrel of desktop transformation," said Jason E. Smith, VP Product Marketing at Liquidware. "That and the fact that while we’re the leading independent, platform-agnostic vendor in our field, we continue to innovate. During the show, we will preview upcoming versions of all solutions in our workspace environment management suite including additional cloud native integration features in ProfileUnity and FlexApp and enhanced user experience reporting in Stratusphere UX."

Solutions Being Demo'ed At VMworld

Delegates with responsibility for Windows desktops will find that Liquidware’s solutions offer vast functionality to enable effective workspace environment management – from managing users, to visibility and monitoring, to OS migration, to application layering.

ProfileUnity is Liquidware’s user environment management (UEM) solution that eliminates the need for roaming profiles and basic profile tools, and delivers zero user downtime migrations to Windows 10, Server 2016, and all leading DaaS platforms. It allows enterprises to natively host user profiles on enterprise grade cloud storage like Amazon S3, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure Blob Storage. This innovative solution boasts an array of industry firsts, not least of which is its most recent accomplishment; the ability to save and restore profiles from cloud object-based storage with no SMB.

FlexApp application layering software, in turn, delivers applications instantly to any Windows desktop environment, regardless and independently of the prevailing OS version. The solution is optimized for VDI and DaaS desktops from Citrix and VMware, for Microsoft RDS/RDmi and Citrix XenApp environments, as well as Amazon WorkSpaces, and physical desktops.

Platform-agnostic Stratusphere UX delivers user-point-of-view visibility into desktop environments that support assessment, design, monitoring and diagnostics, and minimize unknowns and risks.

Liquidware will also have a limited supply of Johan van Amersfoort’s new book, "VDI Design Guide," to give away free to qualified attendees with active VDI projects. Amersfoort himself will be signing the books in the Liquidware booth (#2126) on Monday from 11:15 to 12:45.

Dare2Compare Incentive

The Dare2Compare initiative is an added incentive for delegates to ensure they visit booth 2126 and see if they can win $100 by putting their desktop environment to the test and choosing a challenge for Liquidware to solve. If the company can’t solve it, the delegate wins $100, if they do solve it, well --  the delegate wins either way.

Other Liquidware Events at the Show

In addition to its sponsorship, Liquidware is participating in two invitation-only events during VMworld. On Monday, August 27 it will host an event at Tender restaurant at the Luxor. Delegates who have a desktop project of 500-plus users, are invited to reach out to Liquidware at info@liquidware.com to snag a first-come, first-served ticket.

The company will also be hosting, along with NVIDIA and Stratodesk, the third Inside Track event for EUC influencers and thought leaders. Though not open to the public, bloggers, industry analysts or thought leaders are invited to reach out to @InsideTrackEUC on Twitter about submitting their credentials for consideration.

Liquidware Announces New Customers and a Strong First-Half-Year

Mon, 2018-07-30 21:30

Mohela, University Center at Ponca City, and Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf Lean on Liquidware to Achieve App Layering, Security, and Manage High-Performance Desktops

Chicago, IL. – July 31, 2018Liquidware, the leading third-party provider of platform-agnostic end-user computing solutions, today announced a strong half-year performance and major customer wins that demonstrate the unmatched abilities of its ProfileUnity, FlexApp and Stratusphere UX solutions. Liquidware products not only liberate desktops from on-prem to the cloud but also manage high-performance, balance security with personalization, and stretch resources via application layering. Federal student loan processor, Mohela, collaborative education facility, University Center at Ponca City, and architectural firm, Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf, are the latest in a long string of Liquidware success stories.

H1 2018 has been a record half-year for the company, which saw Q2 bookings increase 62% year-on-year, bringing H1 bookings to a healthy improvement of 37% over the same period last year. Leading this growth was a la carte product sales, with ProfileUnity leading the charge with a sales increase of 68%, followed by Stratusphere UX to the tune of 58%. New licenses were up 37% in this period while renewals stayed strong and consistent.

Customer Wins

Mohela

Mohela’s years of virtual desktop management experience were insufficient to help it overcome the pitfalls of Windows 10 migration, because the new OS includes major changes to the manner in which user profiles are created and managed. As a result, its user profiles, which were stored on persistent virtual machines, would frequently corrupt after migrating to Windows 10. According to Gary Bollman, assistant director of IT at Mohela, the migration was initially a step backward for users and presented serious challenges to the organization’s ability to remain compliant with the federally mandated NIST 800-53 security framework.

“Secure, personalized non-persistent desktops represented the Holy Grail of where we wanted to get, and ProfileUnity was the solution that got us there,” said Bollman. “We looked at profile management tools from Microsoft and VMware, but neither could provide the levels of reliability and security that we require. They were 80 percent and 90 percent solutions. Only ProfileUnity gave us 100 percent.”

University Center at Ponca City

University Center at Ponca City found that basic PC support requirements were eating up the lion’s share of its allocated IT resources. With 60 workstations serving staff and students taking courses from four partner colleges and universities, the organization reached an impasse between its diverse needs and limited resources. A solution came in the form of a VMware-based virtual infrastructure with Liquidware Essentials providing the foundation for virtual environment management.

Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf

Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf employs a strategy of frequent upgrades and customization of its software applications and workstations. To facilitate that strategy, the company migrated its professional staff to non-persistent virtual desktops and introduced Liquidware Essentials in order to gain greater visibility and control over the environment than it was able to achieve with this new infrastructure’s built-in Citrix tools alone.

“At Liquidware, our passion is to provide a seamless experience to each and every customer. Whether a federal contractor, university or design firm, we aim to streamline IT operations and allow companies to re-engineer a desktop with the speed and efficiency needed to sustain its output,” said Chris Akerberg, COO and President of Liquidware.

ProfileUnity is a user environment management (UEM) solution that removes the need for roaming profiles and basic profile tools, and delivers zero user downtime migrations to Windows 10, Server 2016, and all leading DaaS platforms. Among its distinctive features, it allows enterprises to natively host user profiles on enterprise grade cloud storage like Amazon S3, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure Blob Storage. FlexApp is Liquidware’s application layering software that delivers applications instantly to any Windows desktop environment, regardless and independently of the operating system version in use. The solution is optimized for VDI and DaaS desktops from Citrix and VMware, for Microsoft RDS/RDmi and Citrix XenApp environments, as well as Amazon WorkSpaces, and physical desktops. The platform-agnostic Stratusphere UX solution delivers user-point-of-view visibility into desktop environments that supports assessment, design, monitoring and diagnostics, and minimizes unknowns and risks. Combined, ProfileUnity, FlexApp and Stratusphere UX form the Liquidware Essentials bundle.

Liquidware Beats Industry Giants to Take Top Spot in Application Layering in Independent Technical Analysis

Chicago, IL -- July 24, 2018 - Liquidware, the leading third-party provider of platform-agnostic end-user computing solutions, today announced that its FlexApp application layering software has nosed out Citrix’s App Layering and VMware’s App Volume products to take top billing in WhatMatrix’s community-curated independent analysis of application layering solutions.

"We compared these three products against some 140 key criteria in our rigorous evaluation of Application Layering software," said Rory Monaghan, lead consultant at WhatMatrix. "Liquidware FlexApp emerged as community number one – with the richest feature set of all Application Layering products on the market."

WhatMatrix is different from other product comparison endeavors in that its community evaluations are all based on in-depth technical analysis, reflected in comparisons of 100-plus evaluation points, and untainted by vendor submission or pay-to-play models. Comparisons are moreover managed by named, independent community experts and validated by open community curation.

Significantly, Liquidware remains the last independent platform-agnostic player in this market segment that is dominated by giants – a fact that is of particular importance to enterprises aiming to avoid vendor or platform lock-in when it comes to their business-critical software. The company’s FlexApp application layering software delivers applications instantly to any Windows desktop environment, regardless and independently of the operating system version in use. The solution is optimized for Citrix and VMware desktop platforms, for Microsoft RDS/RDmi and physical desktops , as well as Amazon WorkSpaces, and desktops running on Amazon, Google and Microsoft Azure cloud platforms.

Among the criteria measured by WhatMatrix, FlexApp was the sole solution to offer per-named user licensing; allow users to layer their own apps; offer click-to-layer; allow apps to upgrade while in use; provide data store support of MongoDB; offer both Azure and AWS native features; centrally manage file type associations; and hide layers from other users on shared machines.

"This accolade really means a great deal to us. With only three products to be measured in this comparison, it was David versus the Goliaths," said Jason E. Smith, VP of Product Marketing of Liquidware. "What an honor to be measured against industry-leading companies, such as VMware and Citrix, and whose desktops FlexApp supports. To be number one in this category is not only gratifying but validates the tremendous functionality of FlexApp."

Visit https://www.whatmatrix.com/comparison/app-layering to view the complete report. WhatMatrix is a living community that updates information frequently. Report criteria are subject to revision at any time. The information quoted here was accurate on the date of publication.
